The Nutcracker
~ A classic ballet in two acts consisting of the 'real world' and a 'magical kingdom'
~ Written by Marius Petipa who based it on E.T.A. Hoffmann's German tale
~ It was first performed in 1892
~ A widely popular ballet usually performed at Christmas time


Principle Characters:
Clara - The young heroine
Herr Drosselmeyer - Clara's eccentric Godfather
The Nutcracker Prince - Clara's consort throughout her adventures in the Kingdom of Sweets
The Sugar Plum Fairy - Who rules the land of the sweets
