Anna Pavlova in Swan Lake--copyright 1998 The Learning Company Swan Lake is one the most well known dramatic ballets. It is a tragic and romantic story. It's appeal to audiences is that the heroine is never unreal or foolish to us. As a swan queen she embodies beauty and dignity, but as a human in the real world she is "lost". This is what holds Swan Lake's universal appeal.
